Did you know that many different experimental avocado varieties came from Encinitas? PRO TREES is on a quest to preserve and rejuvenate the avocado orchards in Leucadia.
In the 1930s, the avocado ranch that occupied most of Leucadia between Vulcan and what is now I-5 was subdivided into the "Avocado Acres" housing development.
Leucadia's avocado legacy endures to this day: The trees are still the area's trademark feature, including, presumably, some of the original specimens.
Above: Notice the bumpy texture of the unripe Hass avocado (San Diego County's most plentiful variety). In the previous slide, note the babies starting to form.
Above: As the Hass avocado ripens, the bumpiness gives way to a smooth, uniform, and often scabby skin. These are perfect!
Above: Look closely and you'll notice other varieties as well, such as this succulent Reed which bears larger and rounder fruit than the Hass.
Above: This tree isn't doing too well, but it can still be saved and set on a healthy course. Careful pruning, watering, and feeding can turn this tree around.
Above: Is my avocado tree too old? Is my avocado tree sick? Does my avocado tree have a disease? Am I watering enough? Why is my avocado tree losing all its leaves?
Above: With a proactive plan from a Certified Arborist, your trees can look like this: healthy and robust. The clock is ticking, though. Get your free quote now.
